With February coming to a close, I have a friend who is already planning the spring fishing trip. I imagine him in a dark smokey room, hunched over a table with a map of Ontario on it. Just like an admiral planning naval strategy, I can see him pushing around little canoes instead of little aircraft carriers, formulating a plan to cover as much territory as possible in the time alloted us. I can't wait to go trout fishing! This mid-winter anticipation is so very sweet. When I was a kid, just about this time of year the Ontario Travel Guide would show up with the weekend paper and I would pore over that booklet, hoping one day to be planning a fly-in fishing trip to the Lake of The Woods or Temagami or The French River. What an amazing part of the world Ontario is! I love this place!
In the meantime, though, there is my artwork. Instead of cleaning out the tackle box, much of my anticipation is channelled into making new stuff. I find it a good time of year to work on some ideas that I haven't been able to get around to at other times. And it's just about this time that I ache for a little warmth and I find it by making things that fit perfectly into a nice summer day at the cottage. With the website being relatively new, this will be the first time that I will have all my new work posted as soon as it's done. So look for some fresh new work. I will soon be changing the name of my studio on Jane Street from The Pointing Baby Gallery to Roach Tackle Folk Art. Please come in to have a poke around. The Winter Sale starts February 25th and that's a perfect time to come in. There's a great mix of new and existing work and the prices are the best of the year.
